The Creighton Model FertiltyCare System (CrMS) is a fertility awareness based method (FABM) that relies upon the observation and charting of biological markers that a woman will learn to track during her cycle.  These markers  will map out the occurrence of various hormonal events during the menstrual cycle.  For a couple, these 'biomarkers" tell them when they are naturally fertile and infertile, allowing them to use the system either to achieve or to avoid pregnancy. The CrMS cooperates with the couple’s own natural fertility process. Couples can use this knowledge to plan their family and cooperatively build their future as a couple.

This system isn't just for family planning.  It is relative to all women, single or married because it provides women the ability to monitor hormone balance and maintain/evaluate their own gynecological health.  Often the only treatment offered to women for irregular periods, cramps, heavy bleeding, Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS), ovarian cysts, or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is the birth control pill. However, the pill has many adverse and even dangerous side effects. The pill is classified as a “Group 1” carcinogen, which means it has the highest level of evidence of cancer risk.   Essentially, it only relieves or masks the symptoms. The birth control pill suppresses a fertility cycle and can ultimately cause harm to the natural and delicate system. In the end, when using the pill, the cause of the underlying condition is not properly investigated or treated. â€‹

As an example, the image below shows the hormonal changes in estrogen and progesterone throughout a menstrual cycle and how they correlate to the Creighton Model System of charting.  As ovulation approaches, estrogen levels rise and mucus is observed (white baby stickers).  When the estrogen levels are low or the progesterone levels are increasing, there in no mucus flow and dry days are observed (green stamps).

The image below demonstrates how valuable the Creighton Model System is for self-monitoring

reproductive and gynecologic health.  An abnormality is seen in each of the cycles on the chart. For example, in the fourth cycle on the chart, abnormal bleeding is observed.  This can be associated with a hormone problem or even cancer.
